FLORENCE, Ala. - Big Fish and The Kings and Queens of Roam, are just two of the books written by acclaimed author Daniel Wallace, who will be on the University of North Alabama campus as the featured speaker in the UNA Writer's Series.
The UNA Writer's Series, sponsored by the UNA English Department, is Tuesday, March 10, at 11 a.m., in the GUC Performance Center. A book signing and reception will follow the event at 12:30p.m., and take place in the Stone Lodge on campus. In addition, the Florence Public Library will screen the film "Big Fish," Monday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.
The UNA Writer's Series is approximately 32 years old and considered one of the longest running literary events in Alabama. Past guests have included Nikki Giovanni, Dr. Trudier Harris, Joy Harjo, Ayelet Waldman, and many other prominent literary figures.
Pam Kingsbury, UNA English instructor and coordinator of the Writer's Series, said the series has always been eclectic. "Our guests tend to work in multiple genres and are very accessible," Kingsbury said. "We always host a book signing and reception where people who are interested have the opportunity to talk with the writers."
Kingsbury said the Writer's Series Committee chose Daniel Wallace because he is from Alabama, "and he's had several best-selling novels; he's written in several genres including fiction, both long and short, children's novels, and film; and for the interest in the adaptation of his film "Big Fish" which was filmed in Alabama."
