FLORENCE, AL – The University of North Alabama is one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to the Great Colleges to Work ForÒ program. It is the fifth time UNA has appeared in the results and the first time it has won honors in each of the program categories.

The results, released today in a special insert of The Chronicle of Higher Education, are based on a survey of 216 colleges and universities. In all, 75 of those achieved “Great Colleges to Work For” recognition for specific best practices and policies. Results are reported for small, medium, and large universities, with UNA included among the large universities category with more than 10,000 students.

“This is a very satisfying affirmation of UNA, but our real goal is not recognition – it’s being a community that values the needs and contributions of every individual,” said UNA President Dr. Ken Kitts “In that sense, everyone at the University helps to make this a great place to work.”

UNA won honors in each of the Great Colleges to Work For categories, making it one of only three institutions nationwide to do so. The categories include compensation and benefits; confidence in senior leadership; diversity, inclusion, and belonging; faculty experience; faculty and staff well-being, job satisfaction and support; mission and pride; and professional development.

UNA was also named to the Great Colleges Honor Roll, a status granted to only 42 colleges each year who are highlighted most across the recognition categories.

“We are thrilled to be included among our peers on the ‘Great Colleges to Work For’ results,” said Catherine White, Associate Vice President for Human Resources at UNA. “This continued recognition serves as a testament to the dedication and collaboration of our talented and passionate administrators, faculty, and staff. They make UNA a remarkable place to thrive and succeed.”

The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institutional questionnaire that captures employment data and workplace policies from each institution, and a confidential survey administered to a random sample of faculty, administrators, and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.

The Great Colleges to Work ForÒ program is one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country.
