FLORENCE, AL - The Anderson College of Nursing and Health Professions at the University of North Alabama has received three 10-year accreditations from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The programs accredited by the CCNE are the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, the Master of Science in Nursing, and the Post-Master Certificate in the Family Nurse Practitioner track.
“The Anderson College of Nursing and Health Professions has a long history of training its students for their roles in health care at all levels,” said Dr. Ross Alexander, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. “Accreditations like these from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education re-affirm our commitment to graduating students who are fully prepared to engage with and succeed in today’s workforce,”
The Commission is an independent accrediting agency dedicated to public health and recognizing quality nursing education. As an organization, CCNE “ensures the quality and integrity of baccalaureate, graduate, and residency programs in nursing.” Its accreditation process is designed to encourage continual growth and self-assessment in higher education nursing programs.
The accreditations that CCNE has granted to UNA’s nursing programs serve as
a public recognition of the University’s long-held educational standards. Further, the accreditations guarantee new and current students at the College a practical education from nursing programs that are certified as being among the best in the country.
“Our ACONHP faculty take a great deal of pride in educating our students, knowing they will be the health care providers of the future,” said Dr. Vicki Pierce, Dean of the Anderson College of Nursing and Health Professions. “Earning and maintaining these accreditations are part of why we continue to be a top-notch nursing program in the state and region.”
The evaluation of the University, which was an essential part of the accreditation process, took place during the Fall 2020 semester. The CCNE Board of Commissioners acted to grant UNA accreditation for all three of its nursing programs through June 30, 2031, with stipulations that UNA submit a continuous improvement progress report for each of the programs to demonstrate the College’s ongoing compliance with CCNE standards.
