FLORENCE, Ala. - The University of North Alabama and Shoals Habitat for Humanity chapters were awarded a $2,000 grant yesterday through State Farm's national sponsorship of Habitat's Youth Programs.

Through the support of the Youth Program grant from State Farm, UNA Habitat will partner with Shoals Habitat to build the affiliate's 58th home. Shoals Habitat is currently building its 57th house since 1991. UNA Habitat has sponsored two homes, including a solar-powered, earth-friendly home last year. Pledging more than $1 million nationwide, State Farm is providing an unprecedented amount of resources for the Youth Program, which seeks to engage young people, ages 5 to 25, to involve them as current and future leaders in Habitat for Humanity's efforts to eliminate substandard housing and poverty in communities. "We are thankful to have a sponsor like State Farm to support campus chapters," said Katie Gee, president of the UNA Habitat chapter. "This allows our chapter to contribute $2,000 toward Shoals Habitat for Humanity's next building project." "This is part of a nationwide grant program and further underlines our commitment to building stronger, safer and better educated communities," said Emily Clark, public affairs specialist for State Farm.
